Spotlight Interview originally published June 2026.

Heya, I go by Hartsichord. They/Them (Fae/Faer). Neurodisabled.
I’m an intense comic and tea nerd. :3

How long have you been creating comics?

Making comics since 1993. Posted them online since 1998. My first self written stories were Tobias & Devil’s Cake on smackjeeves. Strawberry Comics was gracious to accept Devil’s Cake to their catalogue. Later on in 2012 I boned up on my sex-ed and created my first erotic comic ‘Last Night with my Friend’, since then I have published numerous works for Filthy Figments, and a few anthology projects along the way. Had way too much art schooling, but enjoyed every minute of it. Submitted to every publisher, animation and game company that has existed since 1999 (yes I am serious, did I mention the nuerodisability? :P), and now just do my best as an independent creator.

What do you enjoy drawing most?

Lately I enjoy fantasy and historical locales (is that the word?). I always have prioritized vulnerability in my characters, and my view of the world shows through their eyes and expressions. Since day one though, I have tried to defy tropes that annoyed me in mainstream media. And now its nice to express my wishes in my work without worrying about pleasing a big 5 publisher under the comic books authority code. uwu
Even with the rules put upon us by card companies, I like to see how I can work around them and still be within the rules. :3c The more representation in fiction, the better for everyone’s mental health, imo.

What are some of your biggest inspirations in your work?

Inspirations (idk if they show in my work, but they inspire me to create.) Yoshitaka Amano, and the projects he’s worked on. Miyazaki. JRPGs. Scarlet Beriko, Kaoru Mori, & YanaToboso (apparently we grew up the same way, lol). European erotica. Obscure and primal, erotic mythology. The Kink & Fetish scene. Ogling my contemporary’s work respectfully (but a huge fan). And Ao3.

What do you like about erotica and/or drawing erotic comics?

Anatomy practice… and the challenge. Like an Escher drawing. And I really love that I can do all the emotional storytelling I can muster.

What was your favorite project you’ve worked on for Filthy Figments thus far?

Changeling (part of the Transfixed Anthology). It was personal and freeing.

Recommend a few of your favorite Filthy Figments comics from the archive. Tells us WHY you love them.

Teacher’s Pet by Apollo, I love the art and dynamics play.
I love all of DL and HP’s works– cuz they get me.
Saintbride by Vesta is surrealistically delicious and love how the bodies are rendered (body hair, I love body hair.)
Niki Smith’s ‘Friends’ was life changing.
Luce Northstar’s hits me right in the PC TTRPG and trans feels.
And there was a M/M Ghost comic from one of our OG creators I loved, but seems to have been retired now (or my brain can’t find it.)

(And many more but I will spam if I do that.)

Any personal projects you’d like to plug?

I have accidentally fallen into prose, and I am working on releasing my first illustrated light novel ‘Caraway & Magnanimous’. You can watch my bluesy or pillowfort for those updates. ;3
